AMID all the positivity, all the talk about being brave on the ball and aggressive without the ball, there was a moment of caution from Alvaro Arbeloa.

As the Spaniard took his first pre-match media conference as Fulham boss, he dropped in one key plea for realism.

“There are many new things, so we need time,” said Arbeloa, “We have a difficult month ahead of us, but this month will not define us.”

Patience with Arbeloa may well be necessary. He is a rookie as a Premier League manager, completely untested as a coach outside the confines of Real Madrid, and he is in the midst of a major refresh for an ageing squad.
