IN the last 56 years, Fulham players have won the sum total of just four England caps – and we are all going to have to wait a little longer for our next one, after Josh King narrowly missed out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s latest squad today.
Since George Cohen won his final cap two years after the 1966 World Cup triumph, only Zat Knight and Bobby Zamora have represented the Three Lions at senior men’s level as Fulham players, winning two friendly caps apiece.
Tuchel – who had called up King for a pre-World Cup training camp in the United States this summer – admits that our diminutive 19-year-old attacking midfielder was ‘very, very close’ to selection for upcoming Nations League matches against Spain, the Czech Republic and Croatia.
