WE were already aware that Gonzalo Garcia had star quality in his genes.
Fulham’s new signing from Real Madrid is the great-great-nephew of Hollywood siren Rita Hayworth; he is now regularly serenaded by a Spandau Ballet song and he is used to rubbing shoulders with Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham.
Two goals in his first two Fulham appearances – including a gorgeous solo effort in injury-time in the 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon on Thursday night – confirmed Garcia’s talent.
But for Alvaro Arbeloa – the coach who transformed Garcia from a winger into a centre-forward in the Real youth system - it is not his pace, strength or finishing ability which singles out the 22-year-old Spaniard as a star but his elite winning mentality.
