It was a jarring welcome to life as Fulham’s new under-21 coach but then this was the men-against-boys world of the Football League Trophy – or Jersey Mike’s Trophy to give it its latest name – where Premier League academy teams are pitted against the first teams of League One and Two clubs.
And the opposition wasn’t any old lower-league side but Leicester City – champions of England just a decade ago, a Premier League side two years ago and with our old favourite Bobby De Cordova-Reid pulling the strings, registering three assists and a belting goal at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night.
