IT’S not often you feel euphoric after a goalless draw. A quick scan of the memory banks brings to mind the promotion-clinching nil-nil at Mansfield in 1997 and nothing much since.

But Fulham’s clean sheet at Anfield gave us so much more than just a point. It gave us genuine hope and, as Alvaro Arbeloa said after the match, it gave the players belief in him.

It felt like a turning point. It felt like lift-off for Viva El Fulham era.  Before the trip to Merseyside, we were faced with an inexperienced manager, struggling to instil bold ideas into a sceptical squad.

Three straight defeats, with a lack of balance between thrilling attacking play and a shambolic defence. Yet here, Fulham looked a proper sensible functioning football team, matching Liverpool and securing a fully deserved point, which might easily have been three.
